Spring into Your Future

May is here and so is spring. Finally!

You are probably as relieved as we are that spring is here. It is time to get out of the house and start enjoying the outdoors again! But spring provides more than just warmer weather; the changing of the seasons is a great opportunity to reflect on our past before looking forward to the future. In fact, the month of May offers three events perfectly suited for reflection and forecasting.

Celebrating the Past

Since 1963, May has been recognized as Older Americans Month by the Administration for Community Living to celebrate the impact older adults have made in our communities and in our country. It can be interesting to look back at our experiences and see how they have molded us into who we are today. This belief is supported by a great quote by American philosopher John Dewey, who said “we do not learn from experience … we learn from reflecting on experience.” The theme for this year’s Older Americans Month is Blaze a Trail, honoring those of us who made our own path in life and encouraging everyone to continue this tradition into the future. To see how you can be a trailblazer, visit the Administration for Community Living’s website at www.acl.gov.

Focusing on the Future

We should all take a few minutes out of our day to examine our past triumphs to guide us to future achievements. We want to be our healthiest selves in the future and so on May 25th, we celebrate National Senior Health & Fitness Day. There will be over 1,000 local organizations and 100,000 older adults participating in local events over the county with more information to be found on www.fitnessday.com. The day is all about continuing our commitment to physical activity, something we always encourage with our residents at Hunt Community and The Huntington at Nashua, as well as our At Home By Hunt members. Take advantage of all our amenities to keep you in the best health, whether that means enjoying our indoor swimming pool, working out with a personal trainer in an exercise center or just taking a relaxing stroll on thecampus grounds. Staying active protects our health!

Sleeping for Your Health

Staying active is only possible thanks to the opposite of being active: Sleeping. How many of us overlook the importance of sleep? Sleep is a key ingredient to any dynamic and healthy life. Good news! May happens to be Better Sleep Month, brought to us by the Better Sleep Council with the goal of focusing attention on the importance of sleep. For better sleep tips and recommendations on how to get the most out of a full night's rest, visit www.bettersleep.org. Remember to make sleep a priority, maintain a routine and remove all technology from your bedroom to ensure a rewarding end to your busy day. After all, better sleeping provides better living, which Silverstone Living emphasizes.

Silverstone Living is a family of not-for-profit lifestyle choices with a wellness driven philosophy and approach to life. We want our residents and members to look to the future with their well-being in mind. May is a time of renewal that provides us with an opportunity to remember where we have been and to prepare ourselves for where we want to go. Silverstone Living is here to provide the resources to get you there.
