Welcome to North Woodstock, NH: History, anyone?

There’s a little town in New Hampshire’s Grafton County that is small in size (528 according to the most recent U.S. Census), but big in historical adventures. That town is North Woodstock, NH, and it’s the kind of place you might want to go to and make a memory at.

First thing’s first, it’s easy to get there. North Woodstock is an easy ride from Nashua, NH, just about 90 minutes north, taking the Everett Turnpike and then up 93-North to Exit 32. It’s that simple… and well worth the trip. That’s if you like train rides, amazing views, great food made from farm-fresh ingredients, and award-winning, locally brewed beverages.

Doesn’t sound half bad, does it?!

North Woodstock has a couple of must-see attractions that are perfect for a day trip or quick overnight stay that we’ll highlight right here for you:

Cafe Lafayette Dinner Train

This family owned and operated dinner train takes a two-hour, 20-mile trip along the western slopes of the White Mountains at a leisurely pace, down and along the Pemigewasset River and through the woods. You’ll enjoy some of the region’s most breathtaking scenery in beautifully restored rail cars, but that might not be the best part. That could be the food, which, to be truthful, is more an experience than a meal.

The plated fare consists of the highest quality seasonal and farm-fresh ingredients, along with classic cocktails as well as fine domestic or international wine selections. The service is as great as the food, creating a train ride to remember.

Woodstock Inn, Station & Brewery

Also located in North Woodstock in the heart of the White Mountains, the folks at the Woodstock Inn Brewery craft and bottle their very own award-winning ales, each inspired by the region’s gorgeous scenery and clear mountain streams. They offer a unique tour experience that highlights the crafting and bottling process, giving visitors a solid dose of history as they tour the 30-barrel, state-of-the-art, solar-fed brewery and production operation (and perhaps get a little dose of the finished product to boot!).

Brewery Tours are given daily and you can reserve your spot online. But the brewery is just part of this exciting spot. There is also a rustic 40-room inn for overnight guests, and a casual restaurant that serves all three meals and something for every appetite.

These are just a couple of the attractions in scenic North Woodstock, where, it’s worth mentioning, you can also go for a refreshing swim in nearby Cascade park. And for those with an eye toward shopping, Main Street in North Woodstock has some quaint, family-run shops, including both traditional country and general stores, as well as more modern discount outlets.

Trips like this are just one aspect of the exciting social life that comes with being part of the Silverstone Living family of non-profit living choices.
